Description
Memoirs of Faith & Life in Zaïre is an autobiography of Robert (Bob) Andrighetti's early life and his time spent helping the establishment of the Baha'i community in Zaïre, Africa. Bob takes us through the hard-won story of his Italian ancestors, the memories of a migrant childhood, his many friends, his discovery of spiritual purpose, his God-given marriage across a cultural divide, and of his unique adventures among the people of Zaïre, whom he clearly loves. He manages this with humour and irony without mentioning that as he writes, he is imprisoned by a fatal wasting disease. This is a story of bravery at many levels: of connection to the past and between people across profound, yet illusory cultural barriers of history, race and class. We see someone who, without pretension or descending to political and religious polemics, giving his time and substance to the people of Africa. We recognize a man who has fulfilled the hopes of his ancestors, who has overcome cultural, religious, language, and financial limitations to build a legacy for his family and an example of courage for all of us.
