Description
What inspired ordinary men and women to leave behind comfort, family, and security to carry a message of hope to the farthest corners of the world? Within these pages are the remarkable true stories of the nineteen individuals whom Shoghi Effendi honoured with the title Disciples of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá. Though differing widely in culture, background, and personality, they were united by a spirit of unwavering faith, selfless service, and love for humanity. Crossing oceans, enduring persecution, and making immense personal sacrifices, they helped establish a worldwide community inspired by the vision of the oneness of humanity. Drawing on historical documents, memoirs, letters, and contemporary accounts, The Nineteen Disciples of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá brings these extraordinary men and women vividly to life. Their journeys carried them across North America, Europe, the Middle East, India, China, Japan, and beyond. Some became renowned teachers and speakers; others served quietly through education, scholarship, translation, community building, and acts of personal devotion. Their stories reveal not distant figures of history, but human beings whose courage was tested, whose paths were often marked by hardship, and whose lives were transformed by their love for ‘Abdu’l-Bahá and their dedication to the teachings of Bahá’u’lláh. More than a century later, their example continues to speak to a world searching for unity. Their courage, humour, devotion, and unwavering faith remind us that history is changed not only by leaders, but also by ordinary people who respond to an extraordinary call
